Georg Braun from Germany has created a replacement motherboard for the Amiga 1000.

Those who know their Amiga history well might remember the Phoneix replacement motherboard for the A1000 released around 1990.

In comparison with a stock A1000 the Phoenix motherboard was much more modern and comparable with modern Amiga systems.

The new motherboard replacement from Germany is quite a bit more advanced then both the A1000 and Phoenix replacement motherboard running with a 030 CPU, 8 MB fast mem, integrated flicker fixer and IDE hard drive interface.

At the moment anyone can download instructions from the projects page on http://www.gb97816.homepage.t-online.de/ (go to “Projecte” and click on Mainboard für den Amiga 1000). At the moment there is some talk on the major Amiga-forums about ordering a batch of bare motherboards which can be built up by using chips from current Amiga computers.

Late last night I was thinking of preorder one bare motherboard for myself, but I decided not to because finding the chips may become a problem.

Much bigger problem is soldering the small chips. I might regret it five years from now but I am definitely positive about the project and hope complete motherboards will be for sale.
