I found a 3×3 cm small heat sink and fan combo inside an old PC mounted to an old AGP card today. The GPU was burned out so I removed the heat sink. I have a habit of collecting various heat sinks in different sizes because you never know when they might be of use for you.

As soon as I got home I found out that it fit my Phase 5 BlizzardVision card perfectly. In my previous tests on my CyberVisionPPC card I mounted a large blue anodized Zalman heat sink without fan. I discovered that even though I was running quite a large heat sink a smaller heat sink and fan would have been better at keeping the notoriously hot Permedia 2 chip cool.

So now I only have to find out a secure mounting setup for the mini cooler –I am not going to mount it permanently. I am also going to mount black mini heat sinks on every chip and voltage regulator on top of the BlizzardVision and replace the 30 mm fan with a 5 volt high quality replacement fan.
To be continued…
