I purchased a Melody 1200 Pro soundcard for my Amiga 1200 today. The Melody sound card was produced in 1998 and forwards by Kato and was available in a lot of different versions such as a Zorro 2 card and different clock port variants of the sound card.

A couple of weeks ago I was working on my fileserver, a basic Ubuntu installation running on older PC hardware in a huge maxi tower. On the fileserver I have all my MP3:s that I have collected, I am also going to put all my modules and other computer tunes on there so I can access it on all my computers in the future.

I had this idea that it would be very neat to be able to play MP3 files and not only classic modules on my A1200 connected to my network so I kept my eyes open for a sound card to be able to enjoy MP3 on the Amiga in the highest quality.

The Melody 1200 Pro is actually quite good at playing MP3 files since it can do all the number crunching itself leaving almost all CPU power of your Amiga to other tasks than playing MP3 files. That is actually very nice since even a 060 based Amiga can struggle playing MP3 files and being a multitasking champion at the same time.

Oh, this is also the first time I have ever found any use from the clock port in an Amiga 1200 :-)
