The Sound Enhancer
The Sound Enhancer is one of the most underrated hardware products for the Amiga IMHO. I used to own one a couple of years ago but sold it, something I regretted a long time, I even emailed the guy who bought it but he had lost it unfortunately.

Thankfully I found this one pictured last year and balance was established in the universe once again.
So what is so good about it, well, as the name implies the product improves and enhances the sound quality of the Amiga. Technically how it works is beyond my competence and knowledge of the physics of sound, however I think it boosts some frequencies of the sound coming from the Amiga and makes them much clearer and “chippier”.

Originally sold for about 50 euros, I got this one for 20 euros including two sound samplers, an Action Replay III and three video modulators. You should get one too!

The way this unit worked was that the audio from the Paula chip was sent out on a few pins of the serial port (this is why you need the serial cable attached). The audio on the serial port didn’t run through the filtering chips that the normal audio outputs did, so you were able to get better sound out from this unit.
I always thought that the serial cable was only used to power the circuit board but thanks for informing us how it really works!
Hi,
I designed the Omega Projects Sound Enhancer and many other Amiga products. The one pictured is a Taiwanese rip off the original which had a metal case for screening purposes. I am afraid that Kane’s comments are incorrect and the serial connection is for power only as stated by admin.
Best Regards

Hi!
Thanks, very interesting information!
Personally I think the Sound Enhancer is one of the greatest Amiga hardware expansions because it makes modules sound so much better! (not only .mod but other Amiga module formats too).
I have wondered what the difference between Omega and Pyramid versions are, since the Pyramid is a clone I guess the Omega version would sound even better? I need to track one down and try it out (already have three Sound Enhancers)!
